A decade ago, as DTC mattress brands flooded the market with new ecomm models, fresh branding, and lots of VC dollars, Tempur-Sealy International chose thelab as their partner to build and scale their own digital DTC platform. Today, more than ten years into our partnership, TSI dominates the market with a platform that evolves with their business while many start-up sleep brands are distant dreams.
Building a future-first platform
TSI needed an owned commerce platform to deliver a competitive customer experience while continuing to support the robust B2B systems that long-powered their business. Our custom platform created the ability for TSI to launch new products and migrate brands to a DTC model while keeping the needs of their retail customers in mind. Today, the platform powers 30+ commerce-enabled experiences across their portfolio.

Omni-channel customer support
While most mattress transactions still close in physical stores, most shopper journeys begin online with research and comparison shopping. The technology stack that powers TSI’s platform seamlessly tracks online, offline, call center, and cross-sell behavior so consumers get the highest level of personalized support at every step without missing a beat.

Analtyics & AI tools
TSI’s deep first-party data serves as the backbone of a highly personalized commerce journey that informs everything from financing offers to homepage product placements. A/B/n testing at various stages of product configuration drives CRO in a high average order value category.
Shopping tools leverage ML & AI for turning consumer sleeping preferences into personalized product recommendations. Custom dashboards break out product sales mix, promotions, and campaign performance.
Real-time retailer availability
TSI supports national distribution across 20,000+ large department stores, small mom-and-pop retailers, and Flagship company-owned stores. In order to help ensure a quality experience, we built the store locator tool to connect customers with local stores that have the right products on display and a high standard of customer service. Recommendations take proximity and inventory into account, as well as a tiered retail strategy, benefiting stores with Elite retailer status as it serves results.
A flexible range of promo features
The mattress industry revolves around five major sales periods each year, with brand competition reaching a fever pitch. We built a promotions engine that matches the stakes by supporting advanced discounting structures, scheduled campaigns, product bundling, stackable promo-codes, and gift-with-purchase mechanics.
This system allows TSI to automate even their most complex promotional strategies, eliminating manual implementation while accelerating time to market.
Content marketing and SEO
In order to stand out against competitors in this high-consideration durable goods category, we established a compelling product page approach that educates, builds trust, and drives clarity. Our robust landing page designs host video, motion graphics, and interactive tools that help users understand sizing, material differences, and feature sets.
Payment personalization
Prior to this launch, financing options were only revealed at the final stage of checkout—a missed opportunity to influence purchase behavior earlier in the journey. Today, shoppers see personalized financing offers directly on product pages and within the cart.
Custom integrations with primary and secondary financing partners allow customers to apply for 0% APR, use split pay, combine credit cards, or finance via a TSI line of credit. This flexibility has unlocked new customer segments and driven measurable gains in average order value and product mix.
